Ecological Fashion is always sustainable, but not all sustainable fashion is ecological.
What does this mean? Ecological clothing comes from natural proceses, natural dyes, natural fabrics, no pesticides to process and preserve quality, the respect for animal welfare. In few words, ecological fashion doesn't harm the environment.
Sustainable Fashion promotes local work, fair living wages, the empowerment of women, no child labor. But clothes are not always ecological.
For example, the process of recycling materials to make clothes would be sustainable but not ecological because materials are not organic. The idea of recycling is to use one more time what otherwise would go to waste harming the environment.
Sustainable clothing also known as ethical fashion or slow fashion, means that throughout its life cycle it minimizes its footprint in the environment. It is the action of recycling materials to give them a new life, optimizing the processes to spend as little energy and water as possible, reducing the production of waste and avoiding contamination, using vegetable dyes or substances that are not toxic. The production tends to be local, because it greatly reduces the ecological footprint. The recovery of traditions and small artisan workshops also has an important role.
Ecological or organic clothing: in its production the care of working conditions and respect for the environment are combined. This eliminates the use of any material or toxic substance, including those derived from petroleum. The elements of animal origin always come from a type of breeding that respects animal welfare. The fibers that are grown follow the standards of organic farming.
